Rules
I know there seems to be a lot of rules, but please read through carefully :)
o1. This RPG is rated anywhere from PG-13 to NC-17 therefore you must be 18 years old to apply and play (this is also according to LJ's new policy). The characters are older, so there are adult themes here.
o2. Do not apply if you don't plan on participating. You're encouraged to post at least once or twice every other week. I understand real life obligations and the game stops being fun once you're *forced* to post. Stay active, otherwise, don't bother applying. Three weeks with no posting will end with your termination from the game!
o3. Characters must stay in canon. This is very important. This means everything that has happened in HP Books 1-7 are reality in this universe, including ships, deaths, etc. Obviously storylines can change, characters grow, move on, loopholes found, etc., but JK's word is law here.
o4. OCs are discouraged. Please consider taking on a canon character first (there are many! If you need help, check out the HP Lexicon).
o5. Slash is not prohibited, however, not every minor character is going to be accepted as gay. I've read too many RPGs where 80% of the wizarding world population is gay. If you wish to make a minor character (i.e. Ernie McMillian, Seamus Finnigan) gay, you need to provide a backstory, thorough and believable that is woven into canon. We're following canon as MUCH as possible.
o6. Played Bys. This is where we get stingy. The actor you are using MUST be age appropriate. For example: Johnny Depp playing an 18/19 year old is not acceptable and will not be approved. You know which character you are playing, so have a look at the HP Lexicon to see if a birthdate is listed.
For main characters such as Harry, Hermione, etc., we prefer that you use the movie actors for the main characters (Dan Radcliffe for Harry, Emma Watson for Hermione, etc.). However, you can choose someone else as long as they look the part.
If you are playing a character not shown in the movies, or who has too small a part in the movie to be significant (like Dawlish), we encourage lesser known actors so make it more believable. It's difficult for me to read an RPG and see Justin Finch-Fletchley when I am staring at pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal. All PBs must be approved by the mods.
o7. There will be adult themes in this rpg, including but not limited to sex and violence. Smut for smut's sake is discouraged but if it helps further a plot, or relationship, by all means.
o8. OOC is not allowed here. Remember, this is a CANON rpg. If you decide to venture a bit from canon (i.e. Draco Malfoy being "in love" with Ginny Weasley) you have to have a very, very good reason behind it to make it believable. With lesser known characters, it's easier to venture away as we haven't been provided enough background to those characters that we can develop and make them up ourselves. However, please don't use that as an excuse to make Hannah Abbott a Mary Sue :D
o9. No flaming or insulting of fellow members will be tolerated. We're here to have fun so respect each other. If there is an argument or disagreement that you can't work out on your own, please approach a mod. One thing that will absolutely not be tolerated is using your characters to lash out personally against another member. If you're playing Ron, and someone you dislike is playing Ginny, you're not to suddenly have Ron cut Ginny from his life, or treat her terribly simply because of your issues. Simply, keep your real life problems out of the game.
10. All OOC discussion is to be had at
11. This RPG uses third person past tense (i.e. She stood, He blinked, They kissed) rather than first. There are no asterick actions here (*Tonks stands up from the bed*). If you are plotting online through email, AIM or YIM, do whatever you would like, but when posting, make sure you have it in the proper format.
12. I know you hear it everywhere, but no God-Modding. You do not have the right to kill another character, kidnap them, etc without the consent of the character's owner. This is what plotting and communication is for :)
13. Your character is not psychic. Your character may be observant but they do not know everything going on in every characters' lives, even if you do. Remember this. One thing I always hated reading in RPGs is where Character A is starting to fall in love with Character B and out of nowhere, Character C who has nothing to do with the characters/plot/issue comments on it.
14. This is the wizarding world. I understand Muggleborns (like Hermione) knowing about computers, electricity, etc., but the Weasleys do not. Use their wands, make them use magic. If they are alone, and can Apparate, why would they take a car? Please keep to the magical aspect of things as much as possible. Ginny is not going to brew coffee in a Coffee Mate pot. Wands and magic make life simpler for wizards so please don't Muggle-fy them.
15. If you wish to leave the game for any reason, your journal belongs to this RPG. You may not delete your entries, or journals, without the consent of the mods.
16. A two character limit was initially in place, however, if you feel you can handle more than 2, by all means apply.
17. Please make sure your entries have correct spelling, proper grammar, etc. Read over your entries before posting to fix any mistakes.
18. Lastly, this RPG takes place in 1998, therefore the characters introduced in the epilogue are not open for application.
